| To become an approved Driving Instructor, the candidate must pass three (3) qualifying examinations: | |
| Exam
1: Computer based theory & hazard perception test (unlimited attempts) Exam 2: A practical eyesight and driving test (3 attempts allowed) Exam 3: A practical role play teaching test (3 attempts allowed) |
|
| To remain on the register of approved driving instructors, the instructor must show that they are maintaining proper teaching standards, by passing a test of continued ability (known as a check test) when asked to do so by the Driving Standards Agency (the licensing authority). | ![]() |
| It must be stressed at this stage, that the qualification standards are high and there is no 'quick fix' to qualifying. Trainees must expect to work hard at each stage of training, to gain the professional qualification of Approved Driving Instructor. | |

Our training courses have been running very successfully for 21 years. We have trained people from all walks of life, to teach driving as a 'life skill' and we are a Driving Standards Agency officially accredited Driving Instructor Training establishment (ORDIT). You may check our ORDIT listing by telephoning the DSA on 0115 901 2618 and asking for a free copy of the ORDIT trainers list. |
| All our
training is conducted on a 'one-to-one' basis (no shared cars or classrooms),
we feel people learn best from individual attention from their trainer, for
this type of training. Payment for training, is conducted on a strictly 'pay as you go' method. As a company it is our policy, not to allow you to pay large amounts of money 'up-front', or borrow large amounts and then pay it off later, with interest (what if you don't qualify ?), or get involved with confusing and misleading easy payment plans! Our method of payment means, you are in control of your finances and not someone else, you simply pay for the training session at the end and book the next one. |
|
| It is a proven fact, that learning a skill over a period of time, is far more effective than intensive training for this type of examination structure. | |
| Your training will be conducted by a highly experienced Driving Instructor trainer, who will work under the personal supervision of the Masterclass 'ORDIT' principal trainer. Your progress will be constantly monitored and an up-to-date progress report will be kept on you. | |
| Every year in the UK, many people try to become a Driving Instructor, but statistics show that large numbers of candidates don't make qualification. This shows that some people are not suited to driving instruction, so we as a company conduct a suitability assessment of all candidates, before they start a training course. The assessment will look at the candidate's abilities, their suitability to train and how much training they will require for each of the qualifying examinations. | |
| If a candidate is not suitable at this stage, we will advise them not to continue, we do have a very honest approach to the public, our training and our high reputation. There is a charge of £40.00 (1.5 hours) for an assessment, which is arranged by mutual consent. | |
| The following is a content list of an assessment: | |
| 1) | Greeting and introduction |
| 2) | Licence and eyesight test/judgement of distance test |
| 3) | General theory questions |
| 4) | Driving ability |
| 5) | Role play teaching (part trained) |
| 6) | Role play teaching (trained pupil) |
| 7) | Debriefing |
| 8) | Your questions answered |
| At the end of the assessment, the trainer will discuss your performance and answer any questions you may have, about the assessment or about driving instruction in general. | |
| They will then complete and present you with your itemised training plan, marking off each of the training modules you will be required to complete, for each of the qualifying examinations. As you will train as an individual, the course plan will be personal to you (everyone needs a different amount of training), this makes your course more cost effective, than a standard 'off the shelf' course, where everyone does the same amount of training, regardless of their abilities. | |
| Your first classroom training session can be booked with the trainer at the end of the assessment, however, we are more than happy for you to take a little more time to think carefully before booking a course. There will be no pressure sales (by telephone or post) from us. | |
