This symbol indicates that the driving school has a female instructor. They
may well have male instructors as well, depending on the size of the
school. |
|
 |
If you want to take the driving test in an automatic car then you need a
driving school showing this symbol. Remember, if you pass your test in an
automatic car, your licence will not cover you to drive cars with manual
gears. |
|
 |
This indicates that the driving school is registered on the Driving
Standards Agency's Pass Plus scheme to provide specific additional
training after you have passed your L-test. Once you have reached the required
Pass-Plus driving standard, motor insurers in the scheme will give you a
one-year's no claim discount. The savings you make, especially if you have or
intend to take out an insurance policy in your own name, are quite likely to
exceed the cost of the Pass-Plus lessons. |
|
 |
If you want to make sure your driving lessons include instruction on
motorway driving, choose a driving school showing this symbol. You can't
actually drive on a motorway yourself until you have passed your test. Motorway
driving is part of the training included in the Pass Plus scheme. Because of
the incentive offered on that scheme (see above), it may make financial sense
for you to take that option rather than just take a motorway lesson. |
|
 |
If you are looking for advanced driving tuition you should select a school
showing this symbol. Instructors may have taken advanced driving tests for
themselves, and may have recognised qualifications in advanced driver training.
You may want to check these points when you enquire. |
|
 |
Most learner drivers have only one driving lesson per week. Driving schools
showing this symbol, however, can provide intensive courses where you can learn
to drive and take your test in just a few weeks or even days. However very
rapid learning does not suit all temperaments, so do consider carefully whether
this would be best for you. |
|
 |
Many firms are now realising that their drivers need additional or
refresher training to reduce accident rates and insurance premiums. Driving
schools showing this symbol can provide assessments and refresher training for
companies with drivers or vehicle fleets. |
|
 |
Driving schools showing this symbol can provide re-training or refresher
training for nervous drivers, partly trained learners, or anyone wishing to
improve their driving skills. |
|
 |
Driving schools showing this symbol offer structured training to prepare
you for the Theory Test as well as the practical test. |
|
 |
Many driving schools now offer interactive computer based training to
prepare you for the theory test. If you would prefer to learn theory using a
computer, choose a driving school showing this symbol. |
|
 |
Driving schools showing this symbol have a tuition car which has been
adapted for disabled drivers or have experience in providing tuition for the
disabled. Other driving schools may also provide instruction if you already
have access to an adapted vehicle. |
|
 |
If you passed your driving test after January 1997, you may now need to
pass a separate driving test (category B + E) to tow a trailer or caravan
weighing over 750kg maximum authorised mass. Driving schools showing this icon
can provide the training you will need. |

 |
These symbols indicate that the driving school is a member of
The Motor Schools Association (MSA) or
The Driving Instructors Association (DIA). All qualified driving instructors
have been examined on their knowledge, driving skill and abilities to teach in
order to join the Driving Standards Agency's Register of Approved Driving
Instructors. But some are better than others. The better ones are more likely
to belong to a national organisation such as the MSA or DIA. It is not that
membership on its own makes them better, but anyone who does belong, is willing
to abide by their association's Code of Practice and is always willing to have
any complaints which may arise, aired and settled by their national independent
body. Also as members of a professional body, they are also perhaps more likely
than most to have continued their own training by gaining further
qualifications. |
|
 |
This symbol indicates that the driving school is a member of a local
association of driving instructors. Whilst such membership does not make them
better driving instructors, it does indicate that they have an interest in
their profession and attend regular meetings with other driving instructors in
their area to share news and views. |
|
 |
This symbol indicates that the driving school is a member of the ADI
Federation which acts on behalf of driving instructors and keeps them up to
date with any new information from the Driving Standards Agency.

you find a driving school which is unable to provide any of the services
indicated by their symbols, please let us know. |
