Your questions about Pass Plus ...
Question What is Pass Plus?
Answer It's a project run by the Driving Standards Agency in association with many of the UK's major motor insurance companies. It consists of a short course of further driver training. When you have completed it to the trainer's satisfaction (there is no test), you will receive a certificate which qualifies you to receive the insurance discount.  It's as simple as that!
Question Who does the training?
Answer Any DSA Approved Driving Instructor (A.D.I.) can register to provide Pass Plus training. Your current or previous driving instructor may be registered. If you haven't chosen a driving instructor yet, you might think it useful to choose one who is registered on Pass Plus, so that you can stay with him or her after your test.
Question What does the course cover?
Answer
The course consists of six topics.....
Town Country Motorway
Town driving Country driving Motorways
Dual-carriageway Weather Night
Dual carriageways All-weather driving Night driving
You have to do a minimum of 1 hour on each topic, the first five modules being driving practice, the last being a theory session which can be linked in with practice on other modules.

If your instructor feels that the six-hour minimum is inadequate, he or she will discuss this with you. The instructor is obliged to ensure that you reach an acceptable driving standard before applying for your completion Certificate.

What is the objective of the Pass Plus course?
Pass Plus Pass Plus aims to give you a short-cut to a higher standard of driving. It does this by helping you learn what's important in a controlled way (with an instructor) rather than in the usual, trial-and-error way that used to be your only option.

Because it's controlled, it's quick - you'll learn in a few hours what most people take years to find out - if they ever do!
As soon as you start using this knowledge on your own, you will be driving more safely, and that's how the insurance companies can give you the discount - you will have earned it!

FACT

Newly qualified drivers who don't take additional training are more likely to crash than anyone else.

It keeps happening year after year after year...

Why are competent experienced drivers less likely to have a crash?
= They tend to be more aware of things happening around them.
= They probably react more quickly to these things.
= They are more likely to choose an appropriate course of action.
= They will be more aware of how that action affects other road users.
Any one of these factors will reduce their vulnerability, together they add up to a major reduction of driving risk - that's how insurance premiums can be reduced for each year of claim-free driving!

If you're young, and you're thinking - "they're not talking about me, I'm a good driver already, I haven't got any more to learn", consider whether you might fit into the following description ...

You don't like to admit your own shortcomings.
You don't think about how vulnerable you and other people are when using the roads.

Don't worry, you're not alone. You're in good company. After all, over half the deaths in U.K. road crashes are young people aged 17-25. On average, that's about five of you every day.

How to get started ...

Speak to your driving instructor and book up the lessons! If you haven't got anyone in mind, check out the National Directory of Driving Schools for your area - there's a special icon for Pass Plus.

If you've got a car of your own, it may make sense to use it for the Pass Plus sessions. This will give you the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the car that you're not sure about, and help you to familiarise yourself with it. However, you should check your insurance cover first.

Pass Plus Lesson Prices
How much? The price of Pass Plus lessons may be the same as for ordinary driving lessons, but they could be different:-

HIGHER - because of greater fuel usage (if you use the instructor's car)
LOWER - if you take your own car (check your insurance)
EITHER - dependent on the instructor's pricing policy.
